Lukey's 15 mo check up

Monday, February 5, 2018

Lukey had his 15 mo well-child check last week. Still just a tiny human being - he's 18lb 2oz (2%) and 29.25" (2%). I think his head was somewhere around 36%.

Here are some fun facts about our Lukey at 15mo:
  • Loves to color (learned how to draw on himself while we were a the doctor and thought that was just about the funniest thing in the world)

  • He loves the trampoline, the swing, the Little Tikes truck and mostly just being outside. He stands at the back door and asks to go out often. Luckily, since we have a fenced yard, I can generally just send him out to play.
  • He loves to climb. I have to watch him carefully whenever we go to the playground because man, this kid can CLIMB. He climbs into the ottomans a lot but gets stuck because he can't climb out. I will find him on top of the playroom table, climbing on the kids' beds, climbing up step stools if they are left out, etc, etc. He will attempt to climb just about anything.
  • Loves to nurse. I don't know how I will ever wean this kid because he is so attached to nursing! My other three all weaned themselves right around a year but Luke is holding out hope that I'll let him nurse another year haha. I think I'm going to have to actually work at weaning him soon because it's not looking like he's going to do it himself. He asks multiple times a day "nurse? nurse?" and pulls on my shirt (unless he can't reach me then he will pull on his own shirt). He will even bring me my nursing cover or my cell phone (since I usually grab it before I nurse so I can do something during those 20 minutes haha) and then ask to nurse haha!
  • Sleeps 14 hours a night which is amaaaazing. And he even still takes a good 2 hour nap in the early afternoon. Probably my best little sleeper at this age, even though he was my worst for the first year.
  • When he's thirsty he will get a cup out of the cupboard and bring it to me and ask "drink?" It's amazing to me how young they can figure this stuff out.

  • He is my biggest love bug. He gives kisses and hugs any time you ask and loves to be held & cuddle.
  • His favorite songs are "if you're happy and you know it" (loves the "hooray!" part best and often will skip clapping and stomping and go straight to hooray haha), wheels on the bus (loves to do the motions, seeing him "shush" for the mommy is the cutest), and any of my made up songs...there are like 50 a day. I feel like I sing everything HAHA. Jack always asks me "did you just make that up?" I can't decide if I should be offended that it's so awful he knows I made it up or proud that he even has to ask because maybe, possibly, it's a real song LOL
  • Loves to find his belly button and say "ding dong!" He will walk around saying "ding dong" over and over while pressing on his belly button. He also knows where to find his nose and head.

  • Uses close to 40 words/phrases including: hungry, mine, all done, ball, doggy, whoa, wow, up, nurse, hi, bye, night night, uh oh, beep beep, mommy, dada, nice, drink, thank you, no, yeah, weee, oops, go, nose, belly button, ding dong, book, baby, jack jack, destiny, poopy, ice, spoon, head, grandma
  • Loves to JUMP. He will "jump" around all day saying "jump, jump." His feet never actually leave the ground but it's so cute seeing him squat all over the house haha

  • Recently discovered a love of books.
  • Loooooves, I mean LOVES, balls. Anything shaped like a ball is a ball and will be thrown. He loves to play catch and fetch and shoot baskets and sometimes "soccer."
  • Likes to drive cars around, drive them up something and have them fall off. He even makes a crashing sound when they fall.
  • Is pretty friendly with almost anyone. He will generally let strangers hold him without a problem.

  • We get so, sooo many comments everywhere we go on that RED hair. The other day I was looking something else up about red hair and found out that only 1-2% of the population has red hair. I knew it was small but I didn't know it was that small! No wonder he gets so much attention. I feel like I notice redheads everywhere now but I think it's kind of like how when you are pregnant you all of a sudden notice all the pregnant ladies...like wait, when did EVERYONE become pregnant!? Haha
  • He loves to run away from mom & dad, especially when we call for him. He also loves to try to just run in general. He's still pretty wobbly when he tries to go fast and falls down a lot. We get a lot of comments on how well he is walking but I think people usually assume he is more like 8 months instead of 15mo. He walks how most 15mo olds walk (or not as well haha) but he just looks so much younger.
  • Loves his siblings. He so far only knows how to say "Jack Jack" but if you ask where Zoe or Phillip are he will point to them. He loves to be wherever they all are, loves to "chase" them or play hide and seek and peek-a-boo. He especially loves copying everything they do or doing anything he can to make them laugh (which isn't that hard - they think he is so silly!).

We love you so much, Lukey boy!! Stop growing up so dang fast!!!!

Phillip: 15 months!

Monday, April 20, 2015

I feel so sad that I'm so behind on my blogging because here I am (when Phillip is 2+) just now blogging about Phillip's 15mo check-up! I don't remember the little details about him at 15mo now that I would have known had I written this on time which makes me so sad to not have it recorded! Lesson learned to do better! At least there are pictures! :)

My instagram post of him at 15 months said: Still barely hanging on the charts in the 5th percentile for weight (20lb) and staying steady in the 50th percentile for height (31"). At 15 months, he runs everywhere, loves playing baseball, says "ball," "more," "mama," and "dada" and is very mischievous, climbs on everything, is a big daddy's boy and worships Jack.

blogger tips that i ignore

Saturday, September 20, 2014

i've heard/read before that, as a blogger, you really should narrow down your pictures and choose only the best of the best to go along with your posts.
so i've thought good & hard about that but i've come to the conclusion that it just ain't gonna happen.
and so. just to reiterate that i will not be jumping on the narrowing-down-your-picture-selection train, here you have 50 pictures that all look basically the same.
[i promise they're all different!]

PS sorry if the title was misleading.
this is just one blogger tip that ignore.
i'm sure there are many, many more but we'll save those for another day.

xoxo

Jack Jack: 1 year check-up

Thursday, August 8, 2013

Jack Jack had his one year check-up last week!
I already posted his stats in another post but...
Height: 29.5" Weight: 22lb12oz
Both are 50th percentile.
His head is still in the 80th percentile :]
He thought the doctor's office was so much fun
since there were lots of cupboards to explore!

Dr. Nutting said he was really impressed with Jack's speech and social skills.
Yay Jack Jack!
He said that by 18 months he should be saying 4-5 words.
Considering he already says three words I don't see that being a problem :]
Dr. Nutting also said he was surprised he wasn't walking on his own yet
because he seemed so sturdy and confident on his feet.
He told me he was pretty sure he'd be walking within a couple weeks.
Jack started walking 6 days later so I guess the doctor knew what he was talking about!

Jack Jack had to get three shots this time.
One in each thigh and one in the arm.
This is his pre-shot face.
[Before he knew what was coming...]

...getting ready.
This picture makes me so sad!
Poor baby doesn't know we're about to be so mean to him!

This was our saddest shot experience by far.
The nurse always has me hold Jack's legs down while she gives the shot
and it's always sad
but the last time Jack had shots was at 6 months and it was so different then.
This time he was laughing when I leaned over him to hold his legs
because he thought it was so funny.
And then...BAM. Shot.
And he started screaming and trying to push me away from him.
Soooo sad.
Tears streaming down his cheeks, trying desperately to push me off of him
and BAM another shot in the other leg.
Seriously I felt like the meanest mom.
He just looked at me like "what are you doing to me!?"
So then the nurse tells me to pick him up and he stops crying for a second
[funny how you can be the enemy one minute then the hero the next]
and THEN she had to give him the last shot in the arm.
Oh my goodness.
Poor Jack thought I was saving him and instead I had to hold him still for one more.
Seriously, so sad.
It was the closest I've ever been to tears during shots.
Our brave little boy only cried for like 15 seconds after the last shot and then was back to being his happy, little self.
As soon as we got home he went right to playing in the playroom.
I guess it wasn't as traumatic for him as it was for me.

Look at those chunky thighs!

So happy our little boy is healthy & happy & right on track!

Jack Jack: 9 months!

Monday, April 29, 2013

Jack Jack turned 9 months old on Thursday!
3 months until his 1st birthday? Whaaat?!

Now a brag session.
At 9 months...

Jack finally started army crawling a couple days ago.  He is learning how to move pretty fast.  I keep forgetting he can actually move now.  I leave the room, come back a few seconds later and he is not where I left him! I better start remembering so he doesn't get into trouble.

He had his 9 month well-child check-up today.

Doc said he's as healthy as can be!
When he asked if Jack was crawling and I said no the doctor said he'll probably just skip it and go straight to walking [he was showing off his walking skills at the time] and that it's perfectly fine to skip crawling.
So to all those who say children need to learn to crawl for the sake of motor skills...you are wrong.
The doctor actually said Jack's motor skills are exemplary.
Take that.
PS I actually think now that Jack is army crawling he will start real crawling in no time.  So he might learn to crawl before he walks.
Jack Jack weighs 21lb 12oz (70%) and is 29" long (75%).  His head is still in the 90th percentile.  He is still a big boy but slowing down!

Jack is a total cheeser for the camera.  As soon as he sees someone taking a picture he whips out the biggest smile ever.  It's the cheesiest smile you'll ever see and so cute!

[Excuse the strawberry shake on his face haha]

He loves bath time.
He loves looking at himself in the mirror after bath time...and all the time.
[BABY BUM!]

 He loves the swings.

Mommy and Daddy are two of his very best friends.

...but his very best friend of ALL is definitely my parents' cat.
He is obsessed.
Every time the cat comes within his view he gets so excited.
He copies her meow and screams at her to get her attention.
And he will do anything to get to her. The other day he attempted climbing over the back of the couch.

He loves playing in the laundry bucket.

He loves reading books.
At night when we read scripture stories he gets so excited
although I have to admit he is most excited to play with the bookmark. Haha.

His favorite toys are keys, cell phones, and the remote control.
He sleeps on his tummy and still doesn't sleep through the night...*sigh*
He takes awesome naps though. 2ish hours in the morning (sometimes 3!) and 3ish hours in the afternoon.
He loves going on walks/runs.
He is the happiest baby on the planet and smiles at everyone he sees.
He gets lots of compliments on his hair and his dimple :]
He gets really giggly at night if he stays up too late and gets way past tired.
He says "mama" and sometimes "dada" but I don't know if he knows what dada means.
He loves to smack his lips.
He recently learned how to use his finger to make funny sounds with his lips
or he uses his fist to make an indian sound.
Last week he started a new thing where he randomly lets out a short scream. Either he is testing out his lungs or trying to get attention.
He also randomly grunts all the time. I think he just likes all the sounds he can make haha.
He can stand by himself pretty much indefinitely but if he notices nobody is holding on to him then he gets scared and grabs for you or sits down.
He takes 2-3 steps by himself all the time but doesn't regularly take 5-6 steps like he did a few weeks ago.

He eats pureed fruits and veggies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner but also eats table food at dinner.  He eats pretty much everything we eat.
He got his first PB&J last week and I think it's safe to say he is in love.

This little kid keeps us laughing every day and we love him to pieces.

You should know I did not put the hat on him like that.
I definitely put it on straight.
He definitely changed it to gangsta-style all by himself.

This stage of babyhood is so fun.
Don't grow up too fast, Jack Jack!
