Dresser Styling

Why am I the worst ever at taking before pictures?
Seriously. I always plan to and then I get so excited about getting started on the "after" that I totally forget about getting a before shot!
You'll just have to trust me that the "after" here is so much better than the "before."
[11/18/14: update! I found a sort-of "before" picture hanging out on instagram...in the background. better than nothing, right?!]

I originally had our family portrait canvas hanging in the middle of the wall above the dresser...all alone.
and it really did look pretty lonely.
it was way too small for the wall space so i knew i needed to make a change.
these ikea ledges were the perfect size to fill the space and i loved that it gave me an opportunity to bring more decor (and color!) into the room. i'm obsessing over gold right now and i love that half a can of spray paint allowed me to bring lots of gold into this display.

i was thrilled to bring decor pieces out of boxes (being stored from our previous apartments in utah) and finally find homes for them. i even forgot i owned some of the stuff in those boxes!
and also? bringing fresh flowers from the front yard into the house makes me way too happy.
and ps! after 6 years i finally have a designated (public!) space for our wedding book and all other photo books!

completing the wall/dresser top display also inspired me to finally get handles for this dresser. picked them up at lowes for 97 cents each and spray painted them gold of course!

the only thing missing from this display now is my chatbooks to sit on the ledge under that plate - and they're on their way! so. excited.
oh and i have to tell you one of my favorite things about having this space completed is that junk doesn't collect on the dresser (as often) anymore! this dresser sits right by the garage door so it's the catch-all for anything we're holding when we walk in the house. now i feel more forced to put my things away.
or, ahem. on the counter.

and because we all love a little side-by-side before & after action...

ledges: ikea || plate: taipan trading || & sign: target, then DIYd with gold glitter || W: michaels, spray painted gold || frames: ikea (one spray painted gold) || keep it simple print || bird print: ikea || hello print || mirror: ikea (gold striped DIY'd) || blue & yellow canisters: target || giraffe: hobby lobby, similar || tray: ikea || books: thrifted || faux succulent: target || vase: mason jar || flowers: front yard || book easel: wedding gift

What We Wear Wednesday

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Okay so...
I've been so crazy busy working on the house
[since we move in on Saturday, ahhh! + hooray!]
and I definitely completely forgot about WWWW.
Until just now when we took a break for dinner.
Since I'm wearing ripped up, paint-stained jeans and my little sister's faded Girls' Camp t-shirt I'm just not going to post about today's outfit.
So I'm cheating...again.
These pictures are from Mother's Day but my outfit worked that day and I have a pictures so...
it's a winner and I'm using it.

- Marci -
Dress: Gap
It was super on sale, super cute, the last one left and 3 sizes too big.
But it's one of those rare finds where you can make it work even though it's clearly too large.
It's longer than my size would have been which is great since my size would have been too short for my comfort and it came with a belt (which I swapped for one of my own in this outfit) so you can cinch it up and voila!
Belt: Forever 21
Cardigan: Forever 21
Tights: Target ($5!)
Boots: Forever Young (Utah only, boo!)

- Jack Jack -
Plaid button-up onesie: Carter's
Tie: Tie One On
Pants: Old Navy

Back to work...
Happy Wednesday!
