It's the most wonderful time of the year

It's the most wonderful time of the year

...Nope, I'm not blogging about Christmas yet.
It's the other most wonderful time of the year...
GENERAL CONFERENCE!

Come listen to living prophets

Every six months the LDS church (Mormons) hold a world-wide conference where the leaders of the Church and other members share uplifting messages, and give guidance & direction.

I believe we have a Prophet today who receives revelation from God.
I believe we have Apostles, just as in the time of Christ.

If you're interested in what they have to say OR
if you just want an opportunity to listen to some inspiring messages
[it's honestly pretty comparable to listening to motivational speakers]
watch the LDS General Conference this weekend.
The general sessions are broadcast both Saturday and Sunday from 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm MST.

High Five for Friday

Friday, October 4, 2013

HOORAY, FRIDAY!
[too bad T has to work tomorrow so it's not as exciting as normal].
5 things we loved about this week:

1. Using points T gets at work for "being healthy" (ie going to his yearly dr check-up, exercising, etc) we ordered a gift card to Home Depot that will pay for 10 gallons of paint. For what, you ask? To paint the exterior of our house! I'm SO excited!!! These are the two colors we're choosing between [large swatch]. I'm leaning more toward the darker color [on the left] but please weigh in!
PS We are doing bright white trim no matter the main color. That's T's choice and since I'm picking the main color, he can have his choice of trim!

2. We watched The Lion King on a no-nap day.
[what's up with these no-nap days happening so often?!]
One major pro of having a baby is taking time to watch classic Disney movies.

3. I enjoyed these ALL week.
I mentioned one day to my MIL how we've been waiting for these to pop back up at Sam's Club. We go through them so fast that buying them from the grocery store gets pricey.
Guess what? She bought us a box!
Sweetest MIL ever.
And it definitely satisfied my pregnancy cocoa puffs craving.
...oh and we discovered Jack loves them too.
4. It's Friday so we of COURSE had to spend some time outside and we played with sidewalk chalk!
Meaning that I mostly drew and Jack mostly put them in his mouth or rolled them down the driveway then thoroughly enjoyed when I chased him because he was chasing the chalk into the street.
PS Sidewalk chalk on the bum. Why are these silly things so cute to a mom!?

5. THIS package showed up on my doorstep this morning.

Guess what was inside?
These ADORABLE baby clothes, courtesy of my BFF, Chelsy!
Oh. My. Goodness.
I do not kid you, I almost cried at the cuteness.
Chelsy has the BEST taste and is seriously the sweetest.
If you're not her friend you're missing out [and not because she sends you awesome packages like this, even though that's a given bonus :]]

And PS can I just tell you a little story about this package arriving on my doorstep?
So I've been saying how Jack's naps have been so scarce lately. I actually do know the reason...molars. But it's still frustrating since he's so tired and so cranky without his naps. Anyway, he missed his morning nap today and was so exhausted after a late-morning play date that he went right to sleep. He even pointed to his crib to get in. I was so excited that I'd be getting a nice block of time to work on my latest little project that NEEDS to be done by December 24.
Well an hour and a half into this blissful nap...the doorbell rings. BAH.
As excited as I was to see this package on my doorstep, I was NOT so excited that Jack started to cry immediately. And I was really frustrated with the mailman for not intuitively knowing that a baby was taking a much-needed nap.
For the first time I considered taping one of those signs to my doorbell that says "PLEASE KNOCK."
For my whole life I have hated those signs. I don't know what it is about them but something about seeing that when you walk up to someone's door seems so un-welcoming. Even if it's a friendly note that says "Baby napping, please knock."
It's just not my style, that's all.
Well today I think I finally really understood why people do it.
Not that I didn't understand before but you don't REALLY understand until it happens to you.
It's happened before but never when Jack so desperately needed a nap and I so desperately needed that nap-time.
Anyway I seriously considered making that sign for the 45 minutes that I left Jack in his crib whining, hoping he'd go back to sleep.
Unfortunately he never did and I ultimately decided to not put a sign on my doorbell.
Mostly because Jack is such a light sleeper he would wake up from a knock too.
I don't think I can very well put a sign up that says "Baby sleeping, please go away."
Now that would be un-welcoming.
But I did learn a valuable lesson today.
To all you "please knock" sign putter-uppers, I promise to never judge you again.
And I promise I will knock...lightly. Or maybe I'll just go away.

PPS I should tell you I also considered a sign that says "Baby sleeping, please text me at [insert phone number]." It sounded like a grand idea because Jack wouldn't make up and [bonus!] I could decide if the person at the door was worth my time getting up. But then I decided that the mail man would probably not take the time to text me and I really did want that package.

The many positions of Jack

Thursday, October 3, 2013

So I was on the exercise bike one morning last week and Jack Jack was making a giant mess in the family room [as made clear by the following pictures].
All that mess-making exhausted him so I grabbed a pillow for him to lay down while I finished working out.
Pretty sure he changed positions a hundred thousand times haha

Having a baby is the best.
This little one makes me laugh every day.

What We Wear Wednesday

Wednesday, October 2, 2013

I'm absolutely cheating.
This is my Tuesday outfit and I'm even posting on Tuesday and scheduling this post for Wednesday.
BUT I really do have a good excuse!
Our computer has been completely taken apart to replace the mother board but turns out the new-to-us mother board (thanks to my brother) doesn't fit in our computer case.
So now we have to order a new case and while we're waiting our computer is out of commission.
And normally I can use T's work laptop but since he is super busy at work this week & next that is not an option right now.
SO. Not that you needed all that information but there you have it.
Let me cheat in peace.

Top: H&M Mama
Scarf: Target
Jeans: Old Navy Maternity
Shoes: Walmart

Where are you going?
This little kid has been go, go, go ever since that cast came off!

Oh.
And this happened ALL day.
99% of the time when I put him down he cried and clung to me.
Just one of those days when everything in life is going wrong unless I'm holding him. Haha
Excuse that I'm laughing at him for being so silly!

- Jack Jack -
Top: Target
Shorts: Old Navy
Shoes: Hand-me-downs
*I think they might be Old Navy but they're in his room and he's sleeping.

And this is the face Jack makes for the front-facing camera haha

Happy Wednesday!

Happy Birthday, T!

Tuesday, October 1, 2013

Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday dear Daddy/Thomas!
Happy Birthday to you!

That's right.
This guy turned 28 today!

Let me just start off by saying I could honestly not have married a sweeter, more perfect man for me.
He's my very best friend, my confidant, and the love of my life.
And it sure doesn't hurt that he's the best Daddy in the entire world.
This man IS my world and I'm so, so grateful I'll get to celebrate many more birthdays with him :]
PS Like the shirt? One of his birthday presents!

So we planned to go to dinner as a family but a certain little person was so super cranky all afternoon SO my super sweet mother-in-law watched him for us last-minute while we went out to Thai food.
So YUM.

Curry, mmmm.

I made cupcakes for the birthday boy
[and gave several to both of our parents since we obviously cannot eat 24 cupcakes as a little family of 3].
Jack Jack just couldn't wait until Daddy got home so he had a cupcake right after I finished icing them.

...oh, and then I let him have another one at night.
That was probably an unhealthy decision but I'm over it.
Maybe we COULD eat all 24? At least Jack Jack could if I'd let him.

I really wanted a picture of T on his special day but he thought it was weird that I was just taking pictures of him standing there.
So this is what I got.

And then eventually I got a pillow thrown at me.

Mostly he TRIED to ignore my picture-taking antics but he finally did smile for a good one
[which would be the picture up top].

We also celebrated by having orange rolls for breakfast...
with a candle and the happy birthday song
and T opened his one remaining present
[since we opened most on Sunday night in case he wasn't home from work until late today].
In case you're wondering it was a new A's hat.
Since one of T's sports teams is finally doing well he's loving representing his team and feeling like a winner haha.

Happy birthday to the BEST husband and Daddy!

In other news this week...
Jack & I planned a trip to the outlets after taking Daddy to work on Monday.
Turns out they opened an hour later than I thought and since I didn't want to drive home just to turn around a few minutes later we had an hour to kill.
So we found a park.
And Jack had the time of his life being free to roam the playground without his cast.

Since he's still too little to do much at the park
[and this one didn't have baby swings]
chasing him around making sure he didn't fall off the play equipment got old really fast.
So we went to Petsmart.
Jack was obviously in heaven.

KITTIES!

I really wanted to take this one home with us when he & Jack were playing with each other through the glass.
It was one of the most adorable things I've ever seen.

How did I NOT end up taking this little guy home with us?

Mostly [okay, fully] because Daddy would not have been happy with us haha

Later that day I was cleaning the bathroom and went to check on Jack.
I saw something pink on his hands and then I saw it on his lips.
And it looked suspiciously like a color of nail polish I own.
And THEN I saw this.
GAHHH.
I checked Jack's mouth and saw a tiny bit between his teeth but none on his tongue or the rest of his mouth.
I called my mom to see if she thought I should call poison control.
I was pretty sure he didn't really EAT it since it's nasty and there wasn't much evidence of it in his mouth and after some internet research we determined I could just keep a close eye on him.
He's fine but PLEASE let's not do this again.
PS I'm pretty sure he used the applicator to put the nail polish on his lips like lip gloss.
Since I'm obsessed with lip gloss and he sees me putting it on ALL THE TIME.
I'm wondering if he thinks I'm crazy for putting that nasty tasting stuff on my lips all the time? HA.
I wish I had a picture of his SUPER BRIGHT PINK "lipstick" for you
[he actually did a really good job of applying it...covered most of his lips and barely went outside the lines!]
but I obviously had to wash it off right away...so no picture.
You will just have to imagine.
Oh and PS. Yes, that polish removed the finish from our hardwood floors where the puddle is.
Good thing it's in the bedroom and pretty small. And fixable.
Thank GOODNESS it's not carpet!

This morning Jack ended up in our bed at 6:45am.
About an hour later this was his sleeping position.
Haha I'm really not sure how he was breathing with his face smothered in there.
But he was...I checked.

Even though Jack has his moments like all toddlers
he is generally the most easy-going and sweetest little boy.
While I worked out on the stationary bike he laid on his little pillow reading his construction book and watching Disney channel.
Think I'll get as lucky with #2?

After Jack's nap I had a bucket of water out from mopping.
Jack was about to play in it but I scooped it up and put it on the counter.
When he started to shed very sad tears over this I dumped out the dirty water and refilled the bucket with clean water and put it on the floor for him...
and then was a smart mom and put a towel underneath it.
He had the time of his LIFE splashing in that bucket.
Bringing him to the bucket was the only way I could keep him from crying whenever I put him down this afternoon.
I plan to have many more water-filled buckets in the future.

OH.
And I learned that I need to make sure the dishwasher latches shut from now on.
After taking out the trash today I came back in to see THIS.
He thought it was really fun but I didn't really think it was such a great idea.
PS notice his one shoe. He is always taking off his shoes but seems to forget there are two?
So he's often walking around one-shoed haha
What was my life be like without this kid?
I can barely remember and I'm not sure I want to!

xoxo
